579,312. Loom brakes. BERRY, A. Aug. 18, 1939, No. 23805. [Class 142 (i)] When a Bowden cable controlled by a weft stop motion releases a lever E, a spring D applies a band brake, the braking force being augmented by toggle links c which carry one end of the brake band. Release of the brake is effected by lifting a handle M which tautens the cable so that its sheath f pushes the lever E to the position shown dotted, thereby tilting the brake band away from the brake wheel as shown in Fig. 2 ; springs d<4>, d<6> help to remove the brake, which is held off initially by a ferrule f<2> on the cable f<1> snapping over a catch G<1>, Fig. 3. When the loom is started, a pin. k on the striker P of the stop motion described in Specification 504,946 displaces the catch G<1> and allows a slightly lower catch G to engage the ferrule, Figs. 10, 11. The catches G, G<1> are carried by adjustable links H. On operation of the stop motion, the striker disengages the starting handle and releases the ferrule, whereupon a pawl T drops behind the striker to prevent the loom being started with the brake on. In a modification, the spring D is at the other end of the rod C, and in another modification the handle M is shorter but has a greater angular travel which is reduced by linkage to impart the same lift to the ferrule. According to the Provisional Specification, looms with horizontal starting bandles may have the catch G attached to the starting handle.
|
