The multi-layer sliding bearing (10) is composed of a supporting metal layer (14), a layer of bearing metal (16) containing a copper alloy and a sliding layer (20). The base copper alloy contains at least one transitional metal of Cr, Fe, Co, Ni, Mn, Zr, Si, Zn and Cu especially at 0.1-3.0 wt.% The sliding layer is plated, sputtered or of a plastics. A bonding layer (18) is between the bearing metal and sliding layers. The copper alloy also contains a lubricant, e.g. graphite or MoS 2, at up to 5.0 wt.%.
