<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a direct oxidation fuel cell with superior power generation characteristics and durability. <P>SOLUTION: The direct oxidation fuel cell is provided with at least one unit cell, equipped with a membrane electrode assembly constituted of an electrolyte membrane and an anode as well as a cathode, each being equipped with a catalyst layer and diffusion layer arranged at either side of the membrane; an anode separator equipped with a fuel flow channel for supplying fuel to the anode with; and a cathode separator equipped with an oxidant flow channel for supplying an oxidant to the cathode with. The cathode catalyst layer contains at least cathode catalyst and polymer electrolyte, and a plurality of first regions with a large weight ratio for the polymer electrolyte, as well as, a plurality of second regions with a weight ratio of the polymer electrolyte smaller than that of the first regions.
