PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display apparatus which forms a display image by scanning with light from a light source that emits a plurality of color light beams, and in which color of the light from the light source is corrected so that hue may not change even when the wavelength of the light from the light source changes with the lapse of time. SOLUTION: The image display apparatus includes; a light source part 5 that emits the plurality of color light beams whose intensity is modulated in accordance with an input image signal; a light scanning part 6 that scans with the emitted light so as to form the display image on the basis of the scanning light; a light diffraction part 7 that is installed at a position where an intermediate image is formed by forming an image with the scanning light; a light receiving part 8 that is installed outside an optical path of the scanning light with which the display image is formed out of the scanning light, and on which diffracted light from the light diffraction part 7 is made incident, to generate wavelength information on the basis of a position of the incident diffracted light; and a color correction part 2 that corrects the color of the light emitted by the light source part 5 by controlling the image signal on the basis of the generated wavelength information.
