PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering device capable of moving a steering wheel forward to a retreat position quickly on collision of a vehicle. SOLUTION: The steering device S1 includes a telescopic mechanism T1 having a motion transmission mechanism M1 for converting rotation of a driving shaft 23a of a motor 23 into a front-rear movement of the steering wheel SW, an actuator 31 and a control device 5 for controlling operation of the motor and the actuator. The actuator 31 is operated to protrude an operation piece 34 by the control device 5 and forcibly and quickly pushes a connection portion 27 of the motion transmission mechanism connected with a fastening shaft 18 for fastening the steering wheel together with the fastening shaft along an axial direction of the fastening shaft to move the steering wheel SW forward to the retreat position PE. The retreat position PE is positioned in front of a collision wait position PF of the steering wheel when collision is forecasted which is the front-most position when the motion transmission mechanism is operated.
