PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filter for metal filtration which has improved mechanical strength and stiffness. SOLUTION: The carbon bonding obtained by pyrolysis of the carbon precursor can be converted into a graphite like bonding on heating to a higher temperature in the absence of air, thereby the full carbon bonding network is formed. By using a three dimensional network of graphitizable carbon bonding and fibers to bind ceramic powder, the fiber reinforced ceramic filter for molten metal filtration containing graphitized carbon bonding network is produced which has the mechanical strength of filters three times as much as the carbon bonded filters of prior art, further has improved impact resistance and thermal shock, and at least double filtration capacity.
