The element (10) has a honeycomb core and a cover layer on each side of the core, where the element is designed as a sandwich structure (12). A channel arrangement with a channel is integrated into the element, where the channel is formed as a recess in the core. A channel opening is arranged in an interior-side surface layer of the element. The core includes two regions with different energy absorptive capacity, where one of the regions corresponding with the position of a passenger head has a relatively larger energy absorptive capacity. An independent claim is also included for a method for producing a roof lining element for a motor vehicle.
