PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting element which has an excellent luminance uniformity and an excellent light extraction efficiency and moreover has a wide selection region of light wavelength causing light scattering. SOLUTION: The light emitting element is provided with a light emitting portion composed of a first electrode, a light emitting layer and a second electrode arranged in this order, and a fine structural body arranged in the vicinity of the light emitting portion. The fine structural body has a plurality of column-like portions standing upright perpendicularly against a surface of the light emitting portion with which the light emitting portion and the fine structural body contact, and an average maximum diameter of the column-like portions is 5-1,000 nm and a density is 1×10<SP>6</SP>-1×10<SP>10</SP>pieces/mm<SP>2</SP>, and a regularized degree is 50% or more.
