PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect an occupant seated in a passenger's seat of a vehicle and his/her position. SOLUTION: A device for detecting an occupant's position 100 includes a first electrostatic capacitance sensor part 10 arranged in an instrument panel 2 of a vehicle 1, a second electrostatic capacitance sensor part 20 arranged in a vehicle compartment ceiling part 3, and a circuit part 30 and each of the electrostatic capacitance sensor parts 10, 20 is arranged so that a detection surface of a sensor electrode 11 faces a detection zone DZ, respectively. The first and second electrostatic capacitance parts 10, 20 comprise the sensor electrode 11, a shield electrode 12, and an auxiliary electrode 13. Directionality is set using a first electrostatic capacitance value C1 detected only by the sensor electrode 11 and a second electrostatic capacitance value C2 detected by the sensor electrode 11 and the auxiliary electrode 13, detection ranges Z1, Z2 are formed on the surface of the instrument panel 2 and the vehicle compartment ceiling part 3, whether or not a torso 48 or a head 49 of the occupant are present in the detection zone DZ is detected, and thus, the seated position is determined.
