The oil cooling circuit has an oil pump (32) and an oil cooler (50). A line (42) is provided for supplying a piston cooling unit (44) and another line (46) is provided for supplying bearings. The oil cooler is arranged in the former line for supplying the piston cooling unit. A thermostat (52) is arranged in the former line. The thermostat adjusts the temperature of the oil according to the cooling requirement of the piston cooling. An independent claim is also included for an internal combustion engine with a barrel cooling.
