PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately position an optical path extending member when in use, in a method for observing a focal image formed by a lens held by a lens barrel with a microscope and positioning the lens, based on the observation result. SOLUTION: A lens unit 201 is equipped with the lens 22, through which light from an object enters, and the lens barrel 21 for holding the lens 22. The optical path extending member 25 is employed when observing the focal image of the lens 22 with the microscope, A receiving part 21a having a receiving surface 21b, for receiving a front end facet 25b of the optical path extending member 25 within the lens barrel 21 that faces toward the lens 22, is formed at a part of the lens barrel 21. A mounting part 21c positioned further rearward from a rear end facet 25c of the optical path extending member 25, and having a guide insertion aperture 21d that extends in a direction perpendicular to the receiving surface 21a and a mounting surface 21e that extends in a direction parallel to the receiving surface 21a and is formed at the periphery of the guide insertion aperture 21d, is formed at a part of the lens barrel 21.
