<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video display device that displays the entire subtitle and as many video parts as possible for an area including the video parts and subtitle of a movie. <P>SOLUTION: The video display device includes: an input section for inputting a video signal; a measurement section for measuring the horizontal synchronization signal and vertical synchronization signal and dot clock frequency of the input video signal; a discrimination section for discriminating a signal type from the measurement result of the measurement section; a letter box detection section for detecting a letter box in a video; a subtitle detection section for detecting a subtitle in the video; a conversion section for subjecting the video to resolution conversion based on the discrimination result of the signal type, the detection result of the letter box, and the detection result of the subtitle; and a display section for displaying an enlarged video. The conversion section automatically obtains the entire area, except the letter box, and the smallest area including the subtitle, and subjects the video to resolution conversion based on the obtained areas. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
