PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a functional composite having excellent antifouling properties, solvent resistance and surface hardness. SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing a functional composite includes a process of applying a composition containing (A) a metal oxide of particle sizes of 1-400 nm and (B) polymer emulsion particles of particle sizes of 10-800 nm to at least one side of a substrate to obtain a coating film and a process of subjecting the coating film to a heat treatment at a temperature of≥70°C and/or a pressurization treatment under a pressure of≥0.1 kPa. The ingredient (B) comprises polymer emulsion particles obtained by polymerizing a polymerization stock solution comprising a hydrolyzable silicon compound, a vinyl monomer having at least one functional group selected from among hydroxyl, carboxyl, amide, amino and ether groups, an emulsifier, and water. The mass ratio (A)/(B) of the ingredient (A) to the ingredient (B) in the composition is 50/100 to 450/100. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
