PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for washing away sludge at once by converting a difference in tide levels into a rapid flow by a splash dam, making canal water collide and agitated by the rapid flow, and making the sludge peeled off and suspended in a method for cleaning smell specific for canals and deposited and adhering for many years and sludge, the source of the smell, without having to use any machine through the use of a low-tide phenomenon caused by the motions of the Moon and the Sun and the rotation of the Earth. SOLUTION: The width of a canal is longitudinally divided into two. A walkway is formed at its center. Sea water is held back to one side during high tide, and the splash dam is opened at once during low tide to form a rapid flow and wash away sludge by surging waves in this technique.
