Further, the following vehicle 1 monitors for contact or collision of the following vehicle 1 to the preceding vehicle 2 based on the positional relation among the following vehicle 1, the target point T and the preceding vehicle 2, and the following vehicle 1 is stopped if there is a possibility of contact or collision. Additionally, the following vehicle 1 prevents the staggering of the preceding vehicle 2 from affecting the following control of the following vehicle 1 by virtually setting a preceding vehicle corresponding point Lp' corresponding to an actual current position Lp of the preceding vehicle 2 on the straight route instead of the current position Lp of the preceding vehicle 2.
