PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transient clearance measurement apparatus for determining a minimum clearance between stationary and rotating components. SOLUTION: This apparatus includes at least one rub pin (36) secured to the stationary component (22, 24) and projecting toward a surface of the rotating component (12). At least one rub pin (36) has one or more embedded wires (54) completing an electrical circuit, such that, in use, when the at least one rub pin is rubbed by the surface of the rotating component, the electrical circuit is broken.
