PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a control rod for a nuclear reactor which prevents poor welding, causing an insufficient assembling accuracy and attains a high accuracy of finishing by welding members to be welded under the optimal welding conditions. SOLUTION: Before welding the sheath 5 onto the coma 6 in the control rod for the nuclear reactor, the welding distance is adjusted to the optimum value, by taking pictures of a hole 8 for a coma 6 formed in the sheath 5 and an area 12 to be welded of the coma 6 inserted into the hole 8 with an imaging means 10 mounted on a head 9 of welding equipment; detecting the center of the hole 8 and that of the coma 6 through the image processing of the taken pictures; then detecting the slippage between the center of the hole 8 and that of the coma; determining whether welding should be done, on the basis of the detected slippage, then detecting the welding distance from the head 9 of the welding apparatus to the area 12 to be welded, with a height sensor 20 mounted vertically on the head 9 of the welding equipment and moving the head 9.
