The structure has a head restraint-side cross bar (1) for guiding a guide rod and interconnecting two side parts. The cross bar is partly formed as a strand profile, where a strand direction (R) of the cross bar is aligned parallel to a longitudinal axis of the guide rod. The cross bar is made by extruding thermoplastic or polyblend and welded and/or adhered with one of the side parts in a material-fit manner. The cross bar is made of magnesium, aluminum or an alloy of magnesium and aluminum. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a backrest structure.
