PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image transmission system which establishes a wireless connection of an image processing apparatus and a relay communication apparatus by only turning on a power supply, and implements the transmission and reception of a facsimile. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus and the relay communication apparatus, generate an SSID (Service Set Identifier)/WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy)/AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) cryptographic key from both physical addresses in power-on to establish a communication environment for conducting a wireless communication in ad hoc mode. Then, the image processing apparatus conducts information retrieval by SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol), and as a response, the physical address and a logical address corresponding to the relay communication apparatus are transmitted from the relay communication apparatus to the image processing apparatus. Subsequently, the image processing apparatus encrypts and transmits a connection authentication start instruction and a physical address to the relay communication apparatus. The relay communication apparatus encrypts and transmits a connection authentication OK response and a physical address. This allows both to recognize that the devices of both are communicable with the use of the common cryptographic key, and encrypted communication is implemented between them after that.
