PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motion detection device for increasing edge and speed detecting precision, in the motion detection device for detecting the edge of an object for each image block, and for detecting and analyzing the position, a moving direction and speed of an edge image in real time. SOLUTION: A vertical motion detection part 5 and a horizontal motion detection part 6 are separately provided, and the section lines of block divisions in the vertical motion detection part 5 are defined as a central horizontal line and a plurality of peripheral region horizontal lines in parallel with the central horizontal line and a central vertical line and a plurality of symmetry broken lines inclined from the central horizontal line toward a direction getting away from the central vertical lines toward the upper side and lower side of a frame with the central vertical aline as a line symmetric axis. Also, the section lines of the block divisions in the horizontal motion detection part 6 are defined as the central vertical line and a plurality of peripheral region vertical lines in parallel with the central vertical line and the central horizontal line and a plurality of symmetry broken lines inclined from the central vertical line toward the right side and left side of the frame to a direction getting away from the central horizontal line with the central horizontal line as a line symmetric axis.
