Disclosed are a process for resolution of racemic enantiomers to prepare sulfoxide compounds as a single enantiomer or in an enantiomerically enriched form and salts thereof as a single enantiomer or in an enantiomerically enriched form, and S-(-)-levo-timoprazole, S-(-)-levo-picoprazole, S-(-)-levo-omeprazole, S-(-)-levo-pantoprazole and S-(-)-levo-lansoprazole prepared thereby.
