METHOD AND DEVICE FOR PROVIDING A PREDICTIVE TEXT STRING TO A USER OF AN ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION DEVICE

A method and device for providing a predictive text string to a user of an electronic communication device enables efficient and accurate composition of replies to electronic messages. The method includes receiving at the electronic communication device a message that includes a text string (405). The text string is then stored in a dictionary database of the electronic communication device (410). A character input provided by the user in a reply to the message is then received (415). Next, the character input is matched with a character of the text string stored in the dictionary database, and because the text string was included in the message the text string has a higher matching priority than other vocabulary stored in the dictionary database (420). The text string is then provided to the user as a predictive text string option, whereby the user has an option of selecting the text string to be included in the reply (425).
