There is disclosed a fuel cell apparatus comprising a fuel cell stack including at least one fuel cell unit. The fuel cell stack further includes at least one heating element which comprises, at least in part, a heating material which interacts with electromagnetic waves or an electromagnetic field such that heat energy is produced internally in the heating element. The fuel cell apparatus further comprises at least one electromagnetic heat-inducing unit which is configured such that the heating material in the at least one heating element is heated by the electromagnetic heat-inducing unit when the electromagnetic heat-inducing unit is turned on. There is also provided a method for heating a fuel cell stack by using electro-magnetic waves or an electromagnetic field.
