<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique of an apparatus for cleaning and circulating sewage which is suitable for ponds and swamps with much water to be cleaned, etc. and which adsorbs and removes toxic chemical materials and heavy metals contained in domestic wastewater, agricultural wastewater, industrial wastewater, etc., while an environment is provided where fishes are protected and plants live, and further the apparatus for cleaning sewage does not need an advanced equipment expense and is equipped with a circulation function. <P>SOLUTION: The apparatus for cleaning sewage and a performance technique for cleaning and circulating sewage which make bacteria contained and adsorbed into the porous bodies of diatomaceous earth, crushed wood and nonwoven fabric are developed. Such an excellent effect preparing the habitation environment of effective microorganisms is exhibited as absorption and decomposition of a putrid smell of protein, decomposed nitrogen and phosphoric acid of excrements of animals, adsorption of harmful substances such as spilled oil, and bacteriostatic action. Superfine and super-porous natural materials adsorb and decompose residual agricultural chemicals and heavy metals. Propagation of various germs which are secondary generation resources of malodor is inhibited and deodorization effect is developed. Ammonia and nitrogen are removed. Removal of heavy metal ions by adsorption, decoloring cleaning of dyeing wastewater, treatment of radioactive wastewater and softening of hard water are carried out. Adsorption of ammonia gas and separation of oxygen and nitrogen as separation of gas are carried out.
