PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of rapidly cooling a ring-like hot-rolled wire rod which achieves such a slow cooling that each of cooling rate of the dense part and of a sparse part of the ring-like hot-rolled wire rod falls within a prescribed deviation with respect to a prescribed cooling rate of the target and which has adaptability to rapid cooling, and to provide an apparatus therefor. SOLUTION: In the apparatus for cooling the ring-like hot-rolled wire rod which includes a deck 20 having holes for jetting cooling air and right and left chain conveyers 30a, 30b provided on the deck 20 for conveying the ring-like hot-rolled wire rod 10 in which a slippage is present between the rings at a prescribed pitch in the conveying direction, a heat insulating panel 40 with a detachable heater for clogging the holes for jetting cooling air is provided between the sparse part of the ring-like hot-rolled wire 10 and the deck 20.
