PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tapered roller bearing for sustaining its torque reducing effects by forming a coat on the surface of a cage to moderate the flow of lubricating oil over a long period. SOLUTION: On the surface of the cage 4 of the tapered roller bearing, a metal oxide layer and a water and oil repellent layer are unevenly formed in the following method: the surface of the cage is put in contact with first solution which uses water, alkoxy metal salt, lower alcohol, and metal oxide particles, as essential components, and whose pH is 6 or lower, and then in contact with second solution which contains alkali metal salt and whose pH is 11-13 to form the metal oxide layer, and the surface of the cage is also put in contact with third solution which contains fluorinated coupling agent, water, and lower alcohol and whose pH is 6 or lower, and then in contact with fourth solution which contains alkali metal salt and whose pH is 11-13 to form the water and oil repellent layer on the metal oxide layer.
