PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate confirmation work of an operator by performing mask processing of only the necessary portion of an original manuscript image to display the portion on a screen with the image accumulated, managed and held, without altering the image, to permit correction of mask data easily, even if modification is required for a mask area because of a mask designation status; to permit execution of appropriate mask processing adapting to a manuscript description status, and to permit efficient edit processing of output data. SOLUTION: Manuscript data input from a composite machine 20 is stored in a storage section 1030, and mask data permitting masking to a predetermined area of the manuscript data is generated and stored in the storage section 1030. A control section 1010, without altering the stored manuscript data, displays on a display section 1040 selected manuscript data, in a state that the selected mask data is superimposed on the selected manuscript data, and permits the mask data displayed on the display screen 1040 to be edited, in a state where the mask data is superimposed on the manuscript data.
