PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an innovative coating evaluation method which demonstrates unconventional action effects. SOLUTION: In the method for evaluating the characteristics of a surface coating of a subject 1 such as a metal material and a synthetic resin material, a blast material 4 in which abrasive grains 3 are mixed in a liquid 2 is blasted to the subject 1 with compressed air to reduce the weight of the subject 1. The causal relation between a reduced weight of the subject 1 and the amount of abrasive grains 3 required for the weight reduction is measured to evaluate the characteristics of the surface coating of the subject 1.
