<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cermet which is superior in defect resistance to the conventional cermet. <P>SOLUTION: The cermet has excellent defect resistance and abrasion resistance. The cermet comprises a hard phase and bonding phase. The hard phase contains W and nitrogen and comprises at least one compound selected from metal carbides, metal nitrides and metal carbonitrides, the compounds being composed mainly of Ti. The bonding phase is composed mainly of an iron group metal. The cermet is characterized in that the content of W in the whole cermet is 5 to 40 wt.% an interface phase of a composite carbonitride having a higher W content than that of the hard phase is present between the hard phases, and the interface phase and the hard phase have an atom ratio (Wb/Wh) of not less than 1.7 wherein Wb represents the content of W contained in the interface phase, by atom.%; and Wh represents the content of W in the hard phase, by atom.%. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
