PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide newsprint paper that has high opacity in spite of being lightweight, excellent printability and printing opacity and is suitably useful for offset printing, for example, high-speed multicolor offset rotary printing using cold-set ink. SOLUTION: The newsprint paper is formed of a raw material pulp composed of used paper pulp as a main component and a filler at least as constituent components. The filler contains white carbon (A), calcium carbonate (B) and regenerated particles (C). The regenerated particles (C) are inorganic particles obtained from papermaking sludge as a main raw material through a dehydration step, drying step, combustion step and grinding step, has a weight measured based on JIS P 8124 of 36-48 g/m<SP>2</SP>, a white paper opacity measured based on JIS P 8149 of not less than 90%, and a printing opacity of not less than 85%.
