PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique which eliminates ink ejection failure factors and also enables efficient use of consumables necessary for nozzle cleaning. SOLUTION: As the process of nozzle cleaning generated by a predetermined timing, preliminarily registered image data is printed. At this time, when an image of a necessary region is printed by nozzle cleaning, printing and transfer of a paper are interrupted until a timing of next nozzle cleaning comes. If a normal printing indication is received while printing and transfer of the paper are interrupted, the paper being interrupted is discharged and normal printing is carried out, and thereafter the discharged paper is fed again to be returned to an interruption state of printing and transfer of the paper. If the ink necessary for nozzle cleaning is not fully ejected in printing of the registered image data, an insufficient amount of the ink is forcibly ejected from an ink ejection port.
