PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an armature for a rotary electric machine which can be configured compact as a whole and offers proper manufacturability. SOLUTION: The armature for the rotary electric machine includes a cylindrical core 11, and a coil 19 having a plurality of side conductors 21 arranged in slots 12 and a plurality of end conductors 31 connecting side conductors 21 arranged in different slot 12 to each other. Each end conductor 31 at least on one side in the axial direction of the core 11 is made of a plate-like member having an axial step at a given position in the circumferential direction and is formed, in such a way that one side portion on circumferential one side to the step is located axially outside relative to the other side portion on the circumferential other side; and the end conductors 31 at least on one side in the axial direction are arranged circumferentially, such that one side portions and the other side portions overlap axially between end conductors 31 which are adjacent to each other.
