PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image input/output method and system capable of performing the matching of look, even if an illumination environment is changed, when the look or feature of an image displayed on an input-side display device under an input-side visual environment is to be reproduced substantially similarly in an image displayed on an output-side display device under an output-side visual environment, using the image data of the input-side display image. SOLUTION: An image input-side system and an image output-side system are provided. The image input-side system includes an input-side image display device for displaying an image based on image data; an illumination detecting device for detecting illumination light illuminating a display screen of the input-side image display device; and an information attaching means for attaching the illumination information of the illumination light to the image data as tag information. The image output-side system includes an output-side image display device for reproducing and displaying an image, based on the image data received from the image input-side system; a light source for illuminating a display screen of the output-side image display device; and a light source control device for controlling the light source based on the illumination information of the tag information. On the basis of the illumination information, the light source control device controls the illumination light from the light source so as to substantially match the look or the features of the image reproduced and displayed.
