PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recorder capable of limiting various operations to a recording medium for every recording medium. SOLUTION: A video recorder 1 determines, if an optical disk loaded in an optical disk drive 11 has been registered, whether usage limitations are set in the optical disk. If the usage limitations are set, the video recorder 1 determines whether password information recorded in the loaded optical disk coincides with password information stored in a management area of a storage part 12 while associated with the loaded optical disk. When the password information coincides with each other, the video recorder 1 requests a user to input the password, and when authorized password information is inputted, the video recorder 1 displays a menu screen about the loaded optical disk. The video recorder 1 receives an instruction of various operations to the loaded optical disk through the menu screen and executes the various operations according to the received instruction.
