PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a covering apparatus capable of rapidly lowering the temperature of a heating and press bonding mechanism region when internal inspection and maintenance is required for the purpose of the repairing of jamming in feeding or the removal of foreign matter. SOLUTION: The covering apparatus is constituted so that a cover sheet B is superposed on the surface of a recording medium to be supplied to a heating and press bonding mechanism 8 to transfer the transfer layer of the cover sheet B to the recording surface of the recording medium and the base material of the cover sheet is peeled from the recording medium after transfer. Fan type cooling mechanisms 25 and 26 for forming a forward cooling air flow for cooling the cover sheet B positioned on the downstream side on the feed direction of the heating and press bonding mechanism 8 and a reverse cooling air flow in the direction reverse to the forward cooling air flow are provided and a protective cover unit 100 for covering the heating and press bonding mechanism 8 is provided. An air flow adjusting device 120, which prohibits the advance of the forward cooling air flow into the protective cover unit 100 and permits the reverse cooling air flow to advance into the protective cover unit 100, is provided to the protective cover unit.
