PURPOSE: A stereo camera system and a parallax detecting method using the same are provided to actively control the focus of a camera according to the distance to a target object and create a 3D map. CONSTITUTION: A stereo camera system comprises a camera unit(110), a format conversion and synchronization unit(120), a parallax detection unit(130), a distance calculation unit(140), and a focus control value output unit(150). The camera unit comprises a reference camera(111) and a comparison camera(112). The format conversion and synchronization unit uses image signals output from the reference camera and the comparison camera to output a 3D image and synchronize the image signals. The parallax detection unit receives the synchronized image signal from the format conversion and synchronization unit and detects the parallax at a selected point. The distance calculation unit extracts distance information regarding the selected point from the parallax information. The focus control value output unit uses the distance information extracted by the distance calculation unit to output a focus control value for the camera unit. |
