发明名称 Improvements in and relating to pyrophoric lighters
摘要
592,139. Frictional igniters. DUNHILL, Ltd., A., and SMYTH, H. C. H. May 22, 1945, No. 12731. [Class 75 (iii)] The operating mechanism for a frictional lighter has means which, when released, moves freely to a predetermined extent under the action of a spring before striking a slotted member which actuates an abrasive wheel through a link or a rack and pinion mechanism. In a pocket lighter, a lever 18, Fig. 1, on the snuffer spindle 6 is actuated by a handle projecting through the side wall to move a spindle 12 on an arm 13 along an arcuate slot 11 in a wheel 10, until a spring 16 becomes effective. Then the spindle travels freely and gains momentum before striking the end wall of the slot to rotate the wheel 10 and so rotate the abrasive wheel 4 to which it is linked by an arm 8. According to the Provisional Specification, the snuffer 5 may be held by a catch and be spring-pressed, so that. when the catch is released, an abutment on the snuffer arm strikes a corresponding abutment on an arm pivoted to the spindle 6 at one end and to the link 8 at the other and a rapid rotation of the abrasive wheel 4 is effected. In a table lighter in the shape of a bugle, when the mouthpiece 22, Fig. 3, is depressed, a rod 49 is raised to engage a stud 33 and rotate a wheel 32 to which is pivoted a bar 44. When this bar passes the dead-centre position relative to a rod 45, a spring 47 becomes effective to rotate the wheel 32 rapidly so that a stud 34, Fig. 6, which moves freely between arms 42, 43 of a rack 40, strikes the arm 43 and causes the rack to slide forward and engage a toothed member 39 to rotate the abrasive wheel 37. The snuffer 30 which is fast on the spindle 29 of the wheel 32 and is raised when the wheel is rotated, may be closed by hand to set the lighter ready for use again, the toothed member 39 and the wheel 37 being provided with a one-way clutch coupling so that the abrasive wheel is not rotated when the rack 40 returns to its inoperative position. In a pistol-grip lighter, when the trigger 73, Fig. 7, is pulled, a bar 76 is moved forwardly against the action of a spring and a shoulder 78 carries a slide 66 forwards until a projection 68 of the slide engages the forward end of a slot in a bar 62 and carries this bar forwards. As the slide 66 moves through a guide slot in a wall 67, its upwardly curved rear end 70 is depressed and is freed from the shoulder 78, a stressed spring then pulling the slide 66 rearwardly with the projection 68 moving freely until it strikes the rear end of the slot in the bar 62. A rack on the bar 62 then rotates a wheel 60 to rotate the abrasive wheel 59, the wheels 59, 60 being provided with a one-way clutch coupling so that only rearward movement of the rack rotates the abrasive wheel.
