Adaptive inductive power supply with communication related applications

The invention provides a contactless power supply for inductively providing power to one or more remote devices. The contactless power supply comprises a resonant circuit having a primary for transferring power to the one or more remote devices by an inductive coupling, a receiver for receiving power information from the one or more remote devices and a controller coupled to the receiver and to the resonant circuit. The controller adapts the contactless power supply in response to at least one of the one or more remote devices no longer being present or a new remote device in addition to the one or more remote devices being present. The controller is programmed to calculate one or more settings for the contactless power supply as a function of the received power information and the controller is programmed to set the one or more calculated settings.
