摘要 <p>An image processing method is disclosed for calculating pixel values in an image. The method comprises defining, for each target pixel to be calculated, a template pattern that is representative of the local image pattern around the target pixel. The template patterns are defined such that each target pixel is present in at least two template patterns. For each template pattern a search area is defined comprising the whole of the image, or a region of the image, that is larger than the template pattern. The values of the pixels in each template pattern are compared with the values of the pixels in each of a plurality of candidate patterns, with each candidate pattern comprising a region from the search area for the template pattern. For each target pixel, a candidate pattern is selected which represents a best match with the template pattern of the pixel. A respective pixel value for the target pixel from the selected candidate pattern is then determined. In addition, a value for the target pixel is determined in this way from each other template pattern that contains the target pixel. A resultant value is then generated for each target pixel by combining the determined pixel values from the selected candidate patterns. Advantageously, a selected pattern is not restricted to the vicinity of the corresponding target pixel. A target pixel is therefore calculated from the image data that provides the best match to the local pattern around the target pixel rather than just image data local to the target pixel. Applications include pixel interpolation in scanned images as well as general-purpose image/video processing, restoration and editing.</p>
