PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of stably and efficiently operating a gasification melting furnace at low processing costs by minimizing usage of a basicity adjuster as a purchase, in ensuring fluidity of slag discharged from a melting furnace of the gasification melting furnace by adjusting and keeping its basicity to a target set range. SOLUTION: In this method of operating the gasification melting furnace by thermally decomposing waste while partially burning the waste in a pyrolytic furnace, guiding a combustible gas and ash content generated in the thermal decomposition to the melting furnace, burning the combustible gas in the melting furnace, further melting the ash content by the combustion heat, and discharging slag generated by melting to the outside of the furnace, the basicity of the slag is monitored, the primary adjustment is performed with a primary basicity adjuster first when the basicity is out of the set range, and when the basicity is not recovered to the set range even after the lapse of a specific time, the secondary adjustment is performed with a secondary basicity adjuster to keep the basicity of the slag within the set range.
