PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide trans carotenoid salt compounds, methods for making them, methods for solubilizing them and uses of the same. SOLUTION: The compounds include the following structure, and are compounds which are not TSC (trans sodium crocetinate): YZ-TCRO-ZY, wherein Y is a cation, Z is a polar group associated with the cation, and TCRO is a trans-carotenoid skeleton.
