PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure the neutralization depth of a concrete structure through the use of drill holes. SOLUTION: A hole is drilled in the concrete structure to a prescribed depth from its surface with a drill. A 1% solution of phenolphthalein is adhered to the inner surface of a drilled hole 22 formed by drilling. The inside of the drilled hole 22 is irradiated with a hand light to measure the distance from the interface (neutralization front 25), between a colored part of the phenolphthalein solution and a non-colored part to the open end 22a of the drilled hole 22, with a vernier caliper 13 provided with a depth bar 14.
