PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discrimination device having a mechanism that facilitates discriminating a type of a ballast of an existing fluorescent lamp, and structured to facilitate discrimination operation only by bringing a detection unit with a sensor attached close to the fluorescent lamp with the use of a long rod. SOLUTION: Two types of detection means are fitted at a sensor 15 of a detection unit head, and a mechanism for processing two types of information is fitted at a discrimination part 30 held by an operator. A signal with 2V or more is output toward a signal dividing gate circuit 32 through two signal processing circuits 31 fitted to the discrimination part 30, respectively, the information is made to be informed to an operator by a signal for blinking/intermittent corresponding to a detected method, emitting light of an LED or the like.
