PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain both improvement of brightness feeling of a space and energy saving by enhancing brightness uniformity of a ceiling surface with a simple structure, in an ambient lighting system having ambient lighting fixtures mounted on the ceiling surface. SOLUTION: The ambient lighting system includes a plurality of main lighting fixtures 1 mounted on the ceiling surface 100 and auxiliary reflection plates 2 arranged between the fixtures and having higher reflectance than the ceiling surface 100. Each main lighting fixture 1 includes a linear light source 3 and a gutter-shaped light distribution plate 4 extended in a direction parallel to the light source 3. The light distribution plate 4 distributes light from the light source 3 to directions of adjoining auxiliary reflection plate 2 and a floor face by the light distribution directivity due to the gutter shape. Since, with this, the light from the main lighting fixtures 1 is reflected by the auxiliary reflection plates 2 with high efficiency in a floor-face direction, illuminance from the ceiling surface 100 becomes high in the vicinity of a center between each two fixtures, thus, a difference of brightness from the surroundings is reduced, and brightness uniformity of the ceiling surface 100 is enhanced with a simple structure, and therefore, both improvement of brightness feeling of a space and energy saving can be obtained.
