PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium conveying direction switching mechanism capable of detecting the timing when a recording medium is reversed at an early stage, a fixing device provided with the same and an image forming device. SOLUTION: The recording medium conveying direction switching mechanism includes conveying means 46, 48 for conveying the recording medium in one direction and in the other direction; a guide means 52 having one end 56 provided in a conveying passage 20, rotated by abutting the leading end of the recording medium P conveyed toward the conveying means 46, 48, rotated in an opposite direction after the rear end of the recording medium P conveyed in one direction is passed, and guiding the recording medium P conveyed in the other direction; and a detection means 70 integrally rotated with the guide means 52 and detecting that the recording medium P is passed through the guide means 52. One end part 56 of the guide means 52 is formed into an approximately rectangular shape at side view, and a direction that the leading end of the recording medium P conveyed toward the conveying means 46, 48 and the surface 64 of the guide means 52 abutted with the leading end of the recording medium P are crossed at an acute angle.
