PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the jackknife phenomenon even in the case that a tractor travels on a high friction coefficient road surface and a trailer travels on a low friction coefficient road surface and strong braking forces are applied to respective wheels of the tractor. SOLUTION: In the brake control device mounted on the tractor for towing the trailer, a front wheel friction coefficient of front wheels and a rear wheel friction coefficient of rear wheels of the tractor are detected and difference of the front wheel friction coefficient and the rear wheel friction coefficient is detected. If the difference exceeds a predetermined threshold value, a brake control period is estimated by using a speed of the tractor and a wheelbase of the rear wheels of the tractor and wheels of the trailer and, if a predetermined braking force is applied to the tractor in the brake control period, an increasing ratio of the braking force is reduced.
