The active materials of an alkaline accumulator, which may consist of finely divided zinc oxide and silver, are enclosed in separate compartments in the container, the compartments being formed by porous partitions which are pressed by the cover into fluidtight contact with the walls and floor of the container. The partitions may consist of wood sheets or of wood sheets placed on both sides of a sheet of regenerated cellulose and fluidtight joints between the partitions and container may be produced by a rubber lining in the container. Figs. 1 and 2 show views of a container lined on opposite sides and floor with rubber 32, 34, the partitions 37 being of such a width as to become embedded at their edges in the rubber. The partitions are pressed downwardly by ribs 29, 29<SP>1</SP> on the cover. The electrolyte is a solution of potassium zincate. Each compartment may be provided with a separate cover which rests on the limbs of a U-shaped frame in the compartment. In a modification water-tight joints are made between the compartments by plastic and rubber frames which are compressed between the partitions and in a further modification the partitions are pressed by the cover into rubber-lined grooves formed in the sides and floor of the container. |
