The invention relates to a dc-ac converter (3) for a photovoltaic system (1) comprising a monitoring assembly (5) for the strings of several solar modules (2), said assembly having at least one unit (5') for detecting a direct current and at least one unit (5'') for evaluating said current, the latter being supplied by at least one string of solar modules (2). The converter also comprises an electronic system that contains several components. The invention also relates to a method for monitoring strings of several solar modules (2) in a photovoltaic system (1). To reduce the complexity of the functionality of an accumulator for the strings or the string monitoring assembly, the detection unit (5') and evaluation unit (5'') of the string monitoring assembly (5) are integrated into the dc-ac converter (3) and are directly connected to components of the converter electronic system, for example to a connection region (8) and to an output part (7) of said converter electronic system.
