Detection of knocking, in an internal combustion motor, uses signal values to give indication of mechanical effects of knocking during motor running

To detect knocking, in an internal combustion motor, the frequency spectrum of the motor running value (uks) is registered and evaluated with reference to the frequency components (f1...fn). Characteristic values (iks1...iksn) are formed to describe knocking. The characteristic values are arranged by a functional relationship between them and pressure flank values (ps1...psn). The pressure flank values are weighted according to the frequency components to give a weighted pressure flank value (pss), which indicates knocking if it breaches a nominal value (psg).
