<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compensate for wavelength dispersion of light in both directions while using the same optical dispersion compensator. <P>SOLUTION: A first optical device 2 includes a first port P1, a second port P2 and a third port P3. Light input from the first port P1 is output from the second port P2. Light input from the second port P2 is output from the third port P3. Light from the second port P2 of the first optical device 2 is input to an optical filter type dispersion compensation device 3. The optical filter type dispersion compensation device 3 compensates for wavelength dispersion with respect to the input light. A second optical device 4 includes a fourth port P4, a fifth port P5 and a sixth port P6. Light from the optical filter type dispersion compensation device 3 is input to the fourth port P4.
